5/20/2010-5/21/2010-Elizabeth City
Arrived to Elizabeth City around 3:00 pm. Sam the "Dock Ambassador" waved us into a nice wide "FREE" slip at the downtown wharf. There's no electric or water there, but is free and if five new boaters pull in, then the city throws a wine and cheese party at the dock. It is small town Americana and everyone is friendly and glad you came. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch and doing anything. I enjoyed the "Free" maritime museum, shops and restaurants in this historic part of the town. The ex-mayor spoke to us at the wine reception. He told all of the boaters of the history of the town and how it used to be called, "Shingle" town due to the fact that ships used to come in and load up with shingles cut out of the forestry and swamplands to take up north for construction. This is a "MUST" stop for anyone on the loop. Enjoyed dinner with Lynne and Dick at Thumpers and nice to meet such a nice couple with such great info. about the loop. I have posted tons of pictures. ENJOY!
